MBTI background
[see: Online Learners and their Learning Strategies]
The MBTI is based on Carl Jung's theory of psychological types. An individual's behaviour reflects their preferences for taking in information and making decisions. It will also reflect the world in which a person feels most comfortable - the outer world of action, or the inner world of ideas.
The 16 types are based on the 16 possible combinations of preferences. There are 8 preferences which are grouped in pairs to give 4 dimensions.
Introvert-Extravert refers to how people get their energy.
Sensing-Intuition dimension - how people gather information.
Thinking-Feeling - how people make decisions.
Judging-Perceiving - our drive for closure and organisation.
Introverts: are focused on the inner world of ideas and feelings. Think first, then act.
Extraverts: focus on the outer world of people and action. Act first, then reflect.
Perceivers: open-ended, free-flowing, almost structureless environments. Tend to postpone decisions.
Judgers: definite, settled, organised. Self-regimented, purposeful and expect organised routine.
