[see: Kolb's Learning Styles and Learning Preferences: Is there a linkage?]
This study used a sample of 201 management undergraduates to examine the relationships between Kolb's four learning styles and four learning types, and 12 different learning preferences. Only 3 significant relationships were found. There are weak linkages between learnign styles and learning preferences. There are large individual differences between learning styles and learning preferences within each style and type.
Recommend that educators use a variety of learning methods and encourage students to be receptive to different learnign methods rather than try to link specific learning methods to specific learning styles. [Note: this is the same as the suggestion by Dewar & Whittington 2000 that the onus should be on the learner to identify strategies to deal with problems communicating online].
All learning styles and types: The most preferred learning activities were for doing practical exercises and solvign problems, while the least preferred were for writing major term papers and giving presentations to the class.
