Methodologies overview

Judith Bell (2000) - Doing your Research Project

1... select a topic
2... identify the objectives of study
3... plan and design a suitable methodology
4... devise research instruments (?.. not sure what this means)
5... negotiate access to institutions/materials/people
6... collect, analyse, present information
7... produce a well-written report

Being systematic is the most important thing.

Quantitative researches collect facts and study the relationship of one set of facts to another. These produce quantified or generalisable conclusions.

Qualitative researches are concerned with individuals' perceptions of the world. The seek insight rather than statistical analysis.
